i think his day is over with.not that someone his age can't play but i think the announcers had it right last year when they said he was lazy and playing in a country club situation, sometimes that is hard to bounce back from. i looked on the ahl affiliate to the penguins and his name is not on their rooster any more either.maybe he has retired with a little dignity.

Former 50-goal scorer John LeClair was demoted by the Pittsburgh Penguins to the club's American Hockey League affiliate on Saturday.

Pittsburgh placed LeClair on waivers on Thursday but decided to send him down to the AHL's Wilkes-Barre-Scranton Penguins when no other NHL team claimed him off waivers.

John LeClair was a healthy scratch in two of Pittsburgh's last six games.
(Gene J. Puskar/Associated Press) The 37-year-old left-winger has struggled this season with two goals and five assists in 21 games.

He is in the final season of a two-year deal worth $1.5 million US with the Penguins. LeClair signed with Pittsburgh in August 2005 following the NHL's lengthy labour impasse.

LeClair had 22 goals and 51 points in 2005-06, but his ice time dropped off this season after the Penguins added rookies Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal.

LeClair scored 51 goals in 1995-96, 50 in 1996-97 and 51 in 1997-98 as a member of the Philadelphia Flyers.

A veteran of 17 NHL seasons, LeClair has 406 goals and 413 assists in 967 NHL games.
