I am a dog person who has 2 cats and no dogs. I fit the mold of a cat person more, so I guess I am turning into a cat person. I prefer dogs because they are more affectionate and you can play with them more. I don't like having to constantly let them out and walk them though. I hope this helps!

Hmmm, this is the first time I have heard this theory. After growing up with only dogs, I now own 2 cats. I purposely got them b/c they are more self sufficient than dogs. I can leave them alone all day without worrying about them using the bathroom in the house. And even once in a while join my coworkers for happy hour without having to run home and walk a dog. I have been able to take off and go away on vacation without worrying about who can come over a few times a day to walk them. All I needed was someone to come and make sure they had enough water, food and cleaned the litter box. So, I dont believe the introverted theory is right. In my case it gave me more freedom while still allowing me to enjoy having a pet.

There is a theory that people can clearly be defined as cats or dogs. Dogs are open, friendly, love being with other people, seek attention, are warm and loving, and create a happy atmosphere in groups of other people. Cats are introverted, reserved, do not like close proximity, prefer their own company, and will observe rather than interact with people. When in a group situation, you should not make too much eye contact with cats, and do not touch them, as this makes them uncomfortable. Interact a lot with dogs, and laugh and show them that you appreciate them. People who have cat personalities normally prefer cats as pets, and you will find that people with dog personalities find it very difficult to make cats (the real ones) like them because they can't model their behavior to be like a cat.

I have actually never heard of this theory and find it a little far-fetched. People choose to have a pet for any number of reasons, the biggest one being companionship. Cats are an easily trained animal for busy people. They are independent. Don't clean the food bowl, every time you fill it and will if shown where it is use the litter box successfully. If you're late getting home they don't go on the floor because they couldn't hold it any longer and because the food bowl still has something in it can survive quite nicely without you for the day.
Dogs require more attention. You must be home to take them out, to feed them on time and spend quality time with them.
If anything I would think that your comparison would be in reverse. A dog helps you to avoid having to go out with people because you have to be home to feed them etc.. Good excuse for getting out of an uncomfortable situation. But a cat doesn't care when you get home.

i am a cat person but i own 2 dogs and 2 cats. cats are easy to take care of because you don't have to walk them. but i don't know if i fit in the cat description you described because i have many friends and am a very social person. i love to meet new people. so i guess i'm a cat/dog person. hope this helps with your paper

Hmm I have both. Difference I see in owning one verses the other. Dogs you must be more settled and commited as they cannot care for themselves as much. Cats...leave a potty and food and you can leave the weekend. I don't think it has anything to do with a persons personality per se...I just love animals.....period. I do agree dogs are "usually" friendlier and cats are more aloof. So maybe that makes me moody? lol I hope I helped but probably not. Good luck

Dog people enjoy being constantly reassured that they are in charge and that they are dominant. Cat people enjoy the taste of the wild that cats bring to a household and are not looking for respect from their pets.

But all of these theories ignore people like me, who have both.

i have a dog and cats, but I can honestly say that I am a cat person. They are moody, but they're smart, they sleep most of the time, string seems to amuse them, lovable, and they always seem to know when i need them the most. Dogs are more like kids. they're easily excited, they smell if you don't bathe them all the time, you can't go anywhere for an extended period of time unless you find a "babysitter", and they get hair EVERYWHERE. Most of the times, cats don't listen to you, but they sleep curled up next to you, purr when they feel appreciated. Oh,and they clean themselves, big plus!

well you might have something there in the sense that cat people are more on the edge and aren't afraid to take a leap as a dog person would play it safe..having a dog in the home is like you are more stable in the sense of responsibilities.. cat persons will venture out more.. no one holding you back etc. so i would say dog person( responsible ) cat person ( venturous )
