We may be going on a family vacation to South Padre, and I'm 17, and my bro is 8. Are there quieter places on the island that don't have the wild and crazy college spring-breakers? If not, what are some other relatively cheap, quiet islands to go to?

If you are going during spring break then expect the island to be packed full of college students in all amusements condos and restaurants with their usual partying. The beaches will be crowded in front of the major hotels and condos but you will find plenty of places on the beach to sit and play. You may have to walk some distance to find a spot. If you are going any other time of the year (which I recommend) it is great. We go and take our son who is now 10 in May and October. The prices are better and few people go especially the week before Memorial Day. The weather is usually great (85 to 90 degrees)and absolutely no crowds.
