The plane cant fly but Dune hops to avoid being taken out by the German tank chaseing it. I sort of recall that the plane had Teeth painted on it.

The film is called 1942. He flies down a high street somewhere during the film before the desert scene. The plane you are talking about with teeth is a p40.
