I am an American, we have our own set of beliefs, and respect for women.
Saudi Arabia is their own sovereign Nation. While I may disagree how they treat their women, we have no right to change what they have been practicing for thousands of years.

I lived in Saudi Arabia for 3 years, 20 years ago. Women then lived a very sheltered life in the way you said, but they are highly respected at home, as I have seen it & heard directly by a few Arab friends. I have also seen prettily painted toes under designer jeans peeping out under their long black robe called Burqa " I think ". And many have been very highly educated, some university graduates . Their seemingly violated rights were interpreted as protection for their fairer sex.
Things must be at least a little different now.

When people grow up in their culture, then they are used to it and most of them don't question it.
The kind of lifestyle people have in Saudi Arabia is justified and praised by their religion as being 'good'. And as long as people continue to be devout muslims there, then most of them will continue to be happy with this kind of lifestyle.
Devout religious believers usually believe themselves to be superior to those who don't have the same beliefs. And that's why seeing women have more freedom in other countries and places is not such a big temptation for them.
Who wants to go to Hell for all eternity for the price of a little freedom in this temporary life?

I have never been there. My opinion's are painted by the fact that I have limited knowledge of what happens there and that knowledge has been given to me by groups with a political slant.
With this in mind it does sound like they are backwards and do not appreciate the power, wisdom and intelligence of women and would propel them selves further then any nation in the area if they realized the strength they have in their own population.

It is so pointless to the western mind.Having all the restrictions just because they can. I hear some reasons,. protect women, haha, Keep her chaste, that's a joke. I hear they circumcise their women so they can not enjoy sex. That is really taking care of them. There must be a mean gene some where in Mideastern men.

God created woman to be a man's companion and helper, not his slave. He created woman from Adam's rib, that she might stand beside man, not from the head to be above man, nor from the feet to be beneath him. When the Saudis decide to get rid of their monarchy and Islam, them Saudi women will gain the rights that God intends them to have.

I don't think is right, but again it's none of my business what other cultures and countries do in their own communities...
Who am I say they are wrong and implement my beliefs on what is right or wrong on others...
