The polynomial function f (x) = 0.004 x 3 - 0.18 x 2 + 3.6 x + 16 models the path of a portion of the track of a roller coaster as shown in the figure below. Find the height of the track for x = 20.
I think the correct answer is: 1484.4 Need clairification

Just plug your X value into the equation
.004*20^3=32
32-.18*20^2=-40
40+3.6*20=32
32+16=48

so in y= .004(20)^3-.18(20)^2+3.6(20)+16
f(20)=48

That is my calculation

To answer the question, you are given x = 20. To find the height when x = 20, you need to find the value of y. You do this by putting 20 everywhere there is an x. Therefore:
f(20) = 0.004 (20)3 - 0.18 (20)2 + 3.6 (20) + 16
y = 48

Its a little tricky without the figure, but if F(x) is the height, then just plug 20 into the equation at every point in the equation you see x. Do the powers and multiplications. then do the additions and subtractions. I think you have made mistake somewhere, because the first termis only 32...the second term makes the total smaller, the third term is about 72 and the third term is 16.... that sure dont add to 1484.4

I think for this problem all you do is plug in x = 20 into the function given, so f(20) = .004(20)^3 - .18(20)^2 + 3.6(20) + 16

So f(20) = 48.
