Smiling is not what wears a body down, it is the troubling things in life that have a tendency to take away that smile. People who smile all the time never let the little things in life bother them. It is truly a state of mind!!!!!!

Some of us old-timers, particularly woman, were TRAINED that way early in life!! During the Great Depression, a lot of mothers were urged and instructed thru government tracts (Farm Bureau) to stop rebellion--just about any way one could. I was locked in the bathroom when I made any kind of fuss, and couldn't come out until I was still, AND had a SMILE on my face!!! Rage later emerged during my middle Twenties when I started suffering from claustrophobia. Sitting in a closed stationary car brought this intense NEED to smash my head against the door! During those times, I had no concept that I could open the door myself! Then, too, there was a big social demand that little girls SMILE! I remember walking down a sidewalk with my mother. She was holding my hand, shook it and said, "Smile at the man!" Thank God for the Feminist Movement. To me, that's the equivalent of the unbinding of women's feet in China by the Communist Party!!!--It WAS exhausting! And so often masked a rage that emerged only when I broke through that! Socially, we are constantly reinforced for that, too! I've always been told, "You have a beautiful SMILE!" I can now just be ME and my face refects the way I feel--MOST of the time. Early conditioning is very powerful!! And, people feel more comfortable with a smiling, unthreatening--perhaps, unthinking person!!

Either the person is like a fake and insecure barbie doll, or they generally are a happy person. I know if I'm happy, I never stop smiling and eventually my face hurts, so I have to keep smiling or else I get this grumpy face...

It is much like dogs. Have you ever seen a dog that doesn't look like it was smiling? Some people have a natural smile. I wish I were so lucky.

They are high self-monitors, or in other words good actors. It's a personality trait that you can read about at the link below.
