Deionized water, the kind used in experiment, doesn't conduct electricity. THis is because there are no particles, such as iron or dirt, to make the electricity flow. Regular tap water does conduct electricity; it isn't pure. THis is why you shouldn't use a blowdryer while taking a bath, or like in the movie Groundhog Day, stick a running toaster into your bathwater. It will conduct enough electricity through your body to kill you

Pure water DOES NOT conduct electricity.
However, water that contains minerals, salts, impuritites, etc. does.
Most water on the earth contains impurities and does conduct electricity.
