I have installed Pentium D 3.4 Ghz Processor. In what areas should I expect an increase in the system performance ?

In other words, how do I tell that my system performs better with the Dual Core processor ?

Between single core and dual core, you will see NO difference unless the program is designed to use dual cpus.

And many 3d games are not designed to run on dual cpus. You can, however, cheat a little...run windows on one core and the game of the other core to get around 10-20% increase in speed.

Simple, DUAL CORE PROCESSORS are meant for dual purposes and multiple tasks. Mostly beneficial for ORGANIZATIONAL PURPOSE. So if you are looking for difference between the performance then it`s that you can switch between tasks easily and quickly without having your computer system hanging up sor slowing down for some time.

Try encoding a video file ... you will see an amazing increase in performance as compared to a single core unit.

For example, use Nero or a similar program to convert an AVI or MPEG to DVD format.

This is mainly for people used to run video & graphic programs at the same time they use the normal word and internet programs and may try to copy and paste some stuff at same time,, here you will notice the difference
