I've been called one a few times now, and its reallt starting to annoy me, becasue when i ask people what they mean they all come up with different things, and half of the things they say dont even descibe me. E.G the other i was at a gig and i saw my sisiter, i was wering a band teesh and black jeans, and she goes'look at you, your such an emo' someone explain please?

Emo is just a shorted version of the word Emotional, which is also used to refer to a sub-genre of hardcore punk music, but has now been used to refer to many other forms of music, that consist of lyrics that can be thought of as emotional.
Emo is also most frequently used to describe a fashion or subculture which is usually defined to have roots in punk fashion and subculture, and even some Gothic.
There has also been added that typical "emo persons" are likely to inflict self-injury, most often by means of cutting, burning, or otherwise mutilating themselves, this is a cliche and has led to a ridiculous form of stereotyping and ridicule. Which is untrue.

Emo
Genre of softcore punk music that integrates unenthusiastic melodramatic 17 year olds who dont smile, high pitched overwrought lyrics and inaudible guitar rifts with tight wool sweaters, tighter jeans, itchy scarfs (even in the summer), ripped chucks with favorite bands signature, black square rimmed glasses, and ebony greasy unwashed hair that is required to cover at least 3/5 ths of the face at an angle.

Emo is a music genre, lifestyle (different to each), and a fashion style.
Emo music: Emotional lyrics...typically with punk or hardcore music
Emo lifestyle: Mourning the existence of everything. Everything is sad and a cynical point of view is added to everything.
Emo fashion: Wearing black but not in a gothic sense. Hair covering 3/5 of ones face. Jagged cut hair. Tattoos. Taking modern popular fashion and adding a dark twist to it.

Its an emotional kid, they dress like goths a bit thats why you may have been called emo because you wore black jeans and band t-shirt

those kids who regularly max out daddy's credit card at hot topic and tell everyone how depressed they are and that they cut their arms up every night wanting to die (ok...where are the scars?). they only listen to 'underground' bands adn immediately stop when someone they think is popular or preppy starts to listen to them, or they see them on mtv (which they claim never to watch, but they still do). they intentionally do stupid and rebellious things trying to make authority figures mad, thinking it's cool. these people are attention-craving, tasteless, abnoxious emo kids. anything popular is completely disregarded to them. they also tell ppl that they think drugs are sooooooooooo cool, but are scared to do them, but do them anyway because they think it'll make them cool.

it's just some weird stupid trend. emos are a more emotional goth (hence 'emo') basically. they tend to wear a lot of black and have their hair gelled over their eyes and they listen to crap like my chemical romance and other emotional rockers.

it is some kind of music genre..rock or punk...emo means emotional rock/punk...something...maybe others describe you like that is because of the way you dress.....emo's dress like punk/rock...something like that...maybe emo is very popular in your place/country right now that's why they have been calling you emo.
