We played tap too and had a base, but I am from the south coast (Portsmouth) and now live in London where they call it tag (I work with kids)

We play "you're it" and it doesn't vary from tag except that you say "you're it" when you touch the person

I haven't played tag since I was in elementry school but we played it and freeze tag.

when i was a kid, i played TIG........

Now my little girl plays TAG.....
