As opposed to what - theatre is all around you, in the drama of daily life - it's a live exchange of energy between an audience and performer. Theatre is made in comedy clubs, poetry nights, huge auditoriums, bus stops, school classrooms. Theatre is an essential part of human existance - without it people make up stories, gossip, turn their lives into theatre. It's the campfire story, it's the woman at no.20 who ran off with her neighbour, it's life as art/art as life. TV just don't do the same thing.

There was an island in the Pacific that was completely cut off from the "civilized" world until after the second world war. When they were discovered they were loaded down with goods and services because they were an important stopover.
The thing that changed the lives of the inhabitants most was television. The island got one, and everyone came to watch. One fellow, after a few nights stopped going to watch the television. A friend came to the man and asked him why he had stopped coming to watch the television. "I've been going to the old story teller," said the man.
"The old story teller!" said his friend, "But the old stroy teller's stories are all old, and besides the television knows lots more stories than the old story teller."
"Yes," said the man, ":but the old story teller knows me."
The only way we can learn as individuals or as a people is through stories, and theatre the natural extension of the old story teller.

We still make theatre as a form of live entertainment. There is still a demand for it although it is a dying form. There is nothing like seeing a live performance wether its a musical comedy or straight play. Worth going to see something just once, you may be surprised.........

Make theatre? As in get bricks and stuff to build theatres? Or get actors and directors to build shows? You need a bit more explanation in your question.

If it's make theater as in doing plays on stage we sill do it because it is the classic form of acting that prepares you for becoming an actor in either movies or professional stage. It is a hard and fun challenge. The thing i fell that makes theater last so long is the fact it is performed right in front of you, live where the actors can make a mistake.

Ever since Christopher Marlow and William Shakespear who wrote good plays....everyone wanted to write plays and be just as good and sucessful. People must have their entertainment...so on with the show and the world of entertainment. But as Shakespear said..........All the world is a stage and the people are merely players.
