The Dr. asked her to start supplementing with a milk based formula to help with his weight gain. Yesterday he broke out in hives which haved since resolved since stopping the formula. She is afraid to give him a soya based formula since the father is allergic to soy. Any suggestions as to what she can supplement with? Right now he is back on breast milk only and no hives but he seems to be hungry. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

First of all, I would find a new doctor. Why doctors think babies need to be fat is beyond me. As long as the baby is being fed on demand and has 6-8 wet diapers a day, then he is fine. If he seems to be hungry, he may be going through a growth-spurt. That is perfectly normal, and it will pass. He is old enough to introduce some baby food into his diet. If he likes it, great. If he doesn't, then the breastmilk will still be sufficient for him. My son had solid foods starting at 4 months old, but my daughter did not want them until she was 8 months old. Please tell the parents to try and not be stressed about this. The doctor is probably looking at growth charts that are based on formula-fed babies. While doctors are a necessity, sometimes parents know what is better for their child. My daughter is 2 years old and only weighs 23 pounds. Her doctor is not the least bit concerned. She is healthy, happy and thriving. My son, who is now 12, was over 30 pounds at 2 years old. All children are different. Good luck to all of you!

Believe it or not a lot of doctors don't know all the benefits of breast milk and lots still think formula is just as good. If he is breaking out on formula he doesn't need it. Breast milk is the best thing for him. If he is not gaining any weight maybe start him on some cereal 6 months is the youngest age they could start. Mix it with breast milk and make it really watery. Good Luck

if weight gain is an issue, don't resort to formula. The child can easily get extra fat from the breastmilk. Mom has to pump the milk, and let it sit at room temperature for roughly an hour (this is completely sanitary as LLL says maybe up to two hours is ok). Or until fat has seperated from water. Spoon the fat off and feed directly to baby. This is something I had to do with my son because he was not sucking long enough to get the fatty hind milk. And I agree with the avacado suggestion, high in good fats!!

flow nurse her interior the showering room on an analogous time as a warm bathe runs. this is common for toddlers with colds to devour much less because of fact this is hard to respire on an analogous time as sucking however the steam of the bathe could desire to help sparkling up her nostril. additionally attempt to feed her at a extra greater point if available. i'm specific you have your guy or woman motives for weaning early yet you're able to be able to run into this same situation down the line too. Breast milk and formulation do not somewhat style lots alike so a infant it extremely is breastfed will frequently circumstances reject formulation.

If he's 6 months then your daughter should start him on solids, like baby cereal stage 1 mixed with boiled water or milk. Continue to breast feed him. Have you tried Nestle Good Start?

He is old enought to start solids. With a combination of solids and breastmilk your grandson should be just fine. If the Dr is a little worried about his weight, have him eat a little more pablum! So relax and enjoy your little on cause they don't stay little for long!

Goodness, how about real food? My babies started solids at 4 months. You need to start feeding this kid. Use some expressed breastmilk or water to make some infant cereal and get to it!
