The best way to dry it out is:
1. Get a lunch box, large enough to fit your iPod in and close the lid.
2. Fill the bottom with alot of salt and when i say alot i mean loads.
3. Fold up a towel or a paper towel and place and cover the salt.
4. Then place the iPod on top and close the lid and leave for a few days.
The salt draws the moisture from the iPod and the towel absorbs it. This does work i have done it with loads of phones and mp3 players.

Also circuit boards are washed when made, with components on. This is to clean the excess flux and grease from the board. So 95% of components on the PCB should still be ok!

Hi!

TAKE THE BATTERIES OUT ++NOW++ if you haven't already.
I'm not joking, it could be very dangerous. Leave them outside where they will not be a fire risk (but protected from the rain of course).

Everyone here seems to be right on the ball about saving it though! It's a little-known fact that a lot of circuit boards are washed in water to remove the flux residue from soldering. Certain components are protected by tape to stop water getting in though, so it's probably only a 25% chance of success, but it might be worth trying.

The electronics stand a good chance of survival, what does worry me is the mechanical side of things. Is the screen broke and has water been able to get inside the hard drive? I hope it didn't go through a spin cycle though.

DON'T bake the thing though, that will do more harm than good! I've killed LCDs that way for a start...

You need to leave it somewhere warm, like an airing cupboard for at least a week for the water to evaporate. Only then is it worth trying out.

Good luck!

I dropped my ipod nano in the lavatory basically 5 days after procuring it. It replaced into decrease than a guaranty (yet no longer for that style of unintentional harm - basically for mechanical faults). So I took it in and basically mentioned i did no longer understand why it wasn't working, and that it had basically all of sudden stopped for no obvious reason. They sent it away to get checked and ended up changing it for loose. nicely worth a shot?

make sure it is dry. my brother's mp3: (a very crappy yet very durable one) went through and bottons got messed up. it worked but i wouldn't advise an ipod. it's probaly broke. try returning it.

if it was in for the whole cycle you can kiss it good bye:

Ipods are very sensitive to moisture, it is toast! You could try returning it if it was purchased within a year, and tell them it fell in the snow, I was in the Apple store and they gave the lady a new one.

As long as you don NOT turn it on for as long as it takes for you to be absolutely 100% sure it's 100% dry, then it may have a hope of pulling through. if you turn it on with even the tiniest bit of water in there, it's going to die and there will be nothing you can do for it.

Hi!

First of all make sure that you DO NOT switch it on!!

This is VERY important.

I would leave it to try out overnight and switch it on the morning.

There's no guarantee (obviously) that it's not kapput!!

Hope this helps!! Best of luck!!
