Do I agree that Hedonists believe that the ultimate good in life is to seek pleasure and avoid pain, yes. Do I agree that it is a correct or good ethics system, no.

We do not base morality on what makes us "feel good." Good as what brings pleasure is a faulty definition of good. One man's pleasure is another's pain. Instead, good has been traditionally defined as what is needed for perfection. We as humans share in a human nature which needs certain things for perfection of our nature and essence, and what is needed we call good. There are times when pain will be attached with seeking the good (eg: running for health, surgery, breaking off a harmful friendship) which flies in the face of Hedonism.

Furthermore, it fails to resolve whose pleasure should take priorty over another's. Is my pleasure worth the cost of your pain? Yet, if we described the good as above, what is good for me must also include the good for you because humans can only grow in perfection together. This is in stark contrast with pleasure as good for pleasure may be purely relative to the individual.

By mere definition, epicureans are hedonists, but what does that have to do with "escaping" life? If anything, people who enjoy fine cuisine and/or sensual delights are indulging in "life" more than most people, who just sort of adhere to tighter, less-varied habits.

"Seeking pleasure" is part of living life to the fullest.

Why would one wish to "deny" themselves pleasure? For what reason? Because they think by doing so it endears them more to the deity they worship?

No. Hedonism is about pleasure but that does not mean they seek to escape life. Pleasure and life can so well go together

Escaping life?
No, I don't agree. Escaping life would be commiting suicide.
Seeking pleasure? Isn't that what we all want from life?
