I m from England and i live in States and believe me i do miss cricket matches on tv
but there are few channels who provide cricket matches on a ppv basis
but to answer your question as to why they dont telecast cricket world cup on usa channels, i think it has to do with the popularity of the game, and cricket is pretty much unknown in America, so thats why sponsors dont telecast matches on usa channels cuz first they wont recover theirs cost and they wont get good ratings

Except for expats or immigrants from cricket loving nations there just isn't enough interest in the USA to get high enough ratings. This would be a marginal niche sport at best, so people have to purchase it on satellite just like rugby. It's the NCAA basketball championships that dominate the sports airwavesthis time of the year.
I was surprised there even was a USA cricket association as baseball is the bat and ball game we play. Keep in mind I only remember the FIFA World Cup being first broadcast in 1982 [they even had commercial breaks] and this is the most watched event around the world, so you can imagine how hard of a time cricket would have getting on TV.
