I'm just a young girl minding my own business. The new rules of random stop and search...is this necessary?
Does Bush think terrorists are stupid enough to place a bomb in their bag. Most bombs are attached to the body.
Also the subway has thousands of openings that terrorists can get thru with no detection. Does Bush think manning only the busy openings is going to stop a terrorist?

Some say that this is the governments way of slowly taking away our rights so that they can declare a totalitarian state.

Have you met any terrorists? I am curious as to your expertise on their methods? Having worked in Iraq I can tell you that terrorists use many different ways to place explosives. Bags, animal carcasses, human remains, small children. The idea behind "random searches" is to generally deter an individual from attempting to commit an act. Specifically I suspect you were actually asked to have your bag examined weren't you? If so this sis not a search but an inspection. By using NYC public transportation you are consenting to such an inspection. Does NYC allow baseball bats on the subway. Openly I doubt that they do. Large knives and firearms are probably excluded too. I do agree with you about the effectiveness of such actions. In my opinion the measures the government takes are too symbolic actions meant to assure the citizenry that they are doing all they can. What a joke! The Patriot act is just for show. Border security is nonexistent and large numbers of Latino criminals walk freely.

it's a rule made to show to the people that the government does something.
to enforce it the police will only take so called easy targets (white people). they will not surge Muslims, blacks, the Jew with the curly string of hair next to each ear (don't no there names)..............., that could result in a lawsuit.
of cause it is all bulls**t, if a terrorist would come to the USA and see how nice he or she can live here, they give up there idea of a suicide bomber, they should rather check better on what comes to this country over the water on container ships.

bush started homeland security, did you forget that already

Uh, ok, I will take a stab at it.

Because the cops in NYC are not on the Mex/Canadian borders.

That's why they searched your bag on the subway...
You see, if they were on the borders then they couldn't have been on the subway to search your bag..
You understand? Right? Ok, i shut up now.

Not really sure why you're complaining . . . they play the "NYPD may randomly search you bags" announcement every 5 minutes. If you don't want to risk having your bag searched, don't go on the subway! Being New Yorkers, we know the realities of terrorism first hand, but we don't know about all the threats that go on day in and day out. I do not see searching my bags in a public area to be an invasion of privacy, but a tool against crime.

Once again, President Bush has nothing to do with your incident. it is new York's added security through Homeland security. I, for one, would like to see this sort of practice more often if only to let the potential terrorists in this country know we will not stop our vigilance. You have a problem with this?? You ought to be damned grateful your country cares enough about us!
