his bed is in my closet, yet he gets up in the middle of the night and barks and scratches at the bed until i pull him up there with me (he's too fat to jump on the bed on his own), or if i'm still up, he'll sit next to the bed and stare at me with those eyes of his until i pick him up and put him in the bed with me. he even prefers to sleep under the blanket with his head on a pillow! how come he does this, and how can i get him used to sleeping on his own?

Dogs are pack animals, and they sleep best with others. He is "in your pack" and wants to be with you. If you dont want him on the bed, then get him a larger stuffed dog toy, and start putting it with him to sleep. I know it sounds like you are dealing with a baby, but you are! Good luck!

It sounds as if you spoiled your baby. You must have allowed him to sleep with you when he was a puppy, and since he loved being close to you, he still wants to feel the same way. Your little guy sounds like my Tiki. She will get under the covers and put her head on my husband's pillows. So funny....

The only thing that I can suggest is move his crate to another room. That way you will not hear him whining. It might also be a good idea to put a radio close to the kennel. We have a Chihuahua that will whine when you put him down for the night unless he has his radio playing. (He prefers country) Most of the time he goes to bed around 11, and I don't hear anything from him until 7. He barks to let me know he needs to go out. Also, put an article of your clothing in the kennel. That way he will have your scent in his bed.

Good luck

It's simple ,if you had a choice would you rather sleep alone in a closet? Or in a nice soft bed next to the one you love? Ha ha gotta love dogs hu. They act like a human sometimes, but the only way to break him of the habit is not to allow him up there anymore. You'll have a few nights of no sleep I'll bet but if you really want to stop his spoiled behavior, your going to have to put up with the tantrums he'll be throwing for awhile.

My canine do this to. i got here across that if I positioned one extra canine blanket interior the kennel, they'll use that as conceal rather of the canine mattress. it is not a difficulty, some canine choose to be coated at at evening time. As for the mattress wetting, it could be my opinion in simple terms that the breeder did no longer practice him for paper or pads quickly sufficient and he have been given into the habit of wetting his bedding. No, possibly he won't improve out of wetting his "front room" mattress, so take it away for a on the same time as, or positioned some paper down close to it. he's in simple terms 6 months previous, so which you will smash the habit of the mattress wetting quite truthfully. He sounds attractive as a button.

If hes still young...don't let him sleep with you, cause that habit will be so hard to break. if hes older just be firm and consistent allow him to sleep either at the foot of the bed or in a certain place in the home each night.

Well If you started when he was a puppy sleeping with you that's what he thinks his bed is and besides he want to be next to you. Your his friend and he's your friend. He want to see that you are safe. Lets just say he loves you so let him sleep the way he wants to.

He does this because he wants to be close to you. He probably feels more secure lying next to you- plus your bed is more comfortable. Dogs get scared too.

Dogs are pack animals and in the wild, they sleep together in packs to stay warm. You're just the alpha-dog and he's just following instinct.

If you don't want him to do that, maybe try crate training?

Do you like to sleep alone? Wouldn't you rather have someone you love, that keeps you safe and warm and occasionally licks your face, to cuddle up to!

Just ignore and live him according to his wish. If you demand him to avoid any bad habit he will be addicted to that bad habit. Stop demanding him to sleep somewhere else. This could be the only solution.
