Mine does that, but what ti means by locked is on teh digital camera, most of them you can lock teh pictures so that they are not accidentally deleted. Put the card back in teh camera and find that option. They don't need formatted.

If this is for a camera, remember to ALWAYS format camera cards in the camera, never the computer!!!!!!

The SD Cards have an erasure-prevention switch to keep your data safe. When the switch is in the locked position, it will prevent you from accidentally copying over or deleting data stored on your card.

If this switch is broken, might need to have SANDISK swap out or repair the unit.

i'm assuming you're utilising a USB card reader, or a reader that plugs right into a USB header on the motherboard. domicile windows 98SE does not play properly with USB, a minimum of besides as domicile windows XP does. there is not any longer plenty that could properly be performed approximately it, till there are particular drivers that could properly be put in from the Sandisk internet site that conceal the undertaking in 98SE(rather no longer likely). even nevertheless, I too have USB issues inspite of XP. in case you have greater desirable than one USB device, attempt unplugging it in the previous utilising the cardboard reader.

you may not have the option to format it from the pc.....plug in the card to whatever you are using it for...(i.e. camera, phone) and go into the menu and see if there is an option to format from there.
