When I was pregnant, 13 was the start of the 2nd trimester. When my sis was pregnant, 14 was the start of the 2nd. So honestly, I dunno. Her OB gave this big explanation of why it was like that and just confused me even more. I would say 13 is the start on #2.

You are three months pregnant and in your 1st trimester. The second trimester will start at 14 weeks. To calculate how many months you are you can take the number of weeks you are and divide that number by 4.

12 weeks/4 = 3 months

Hope this helps!

0-4 weeks = 1 month
4-8 weeks = 2 months
8-12 weeks = 3 months
12-16 weeks = 4 months
16-20 weeks = 5 months
20-24 weeks = 6 months
24-28 weeks = 7 months
28-32 weeks = 8 months
32-36 weeks = 9 months
36-40 weeks =10 months

If you actually want to be technical, women are pregnant 40 weeks, actual pregnancy time is 10 months! you would be in your second trimester technically at 14 weeks! According to the calendar.

this is so confusing to me too. If you count from LMP, I, for example am 18 weeks pregnant, and that's how my doctor counts. but it seems like everyone else counts from around that date of concepction, which would make me 16 weeks. I feel stupid to ask the doctor too...

This always confused me also. http://www.babycenter.com/ has a very detailed timeline that extends into the toddler years; you can find great info there. They explain how gestational age is counted.
