It is illegal, if you go to Monkey World in Dorset, you will see all the monkeys that people have brought then when they have got too big for the owners they just leave them to fend for themselves. Take a trip to Monkey World and chat to some of the staff, plus it will open your eyes to see the monkeys that have been abused, had ther teeth pulled out because they have bitten the owners, some had been trained to smoke drugs, I can hear you say "well that wont be me" but yeah they look cute as babies but give 10 or 20 years time you will get bored with them, the are not a toy, they are an actual animal, Monkey World are trying to stop people all over the world from capturing these poor defenceless animals, and i will tell you how these animals are captured.... Well they are darted, then left to fall out of a tree then put in crates that are so small they cant even turn round in them let alone have food and water. So my opinion is go to Monkey World or go online to them at Monkeyworld.org then you can read all about them.. So why dont go to Monkey World and adopt one of these if you are 100% sure, you get discount on going in to see your adopted monkey all year round.

Ross had to give up his monkey because it grew up and could no longer be kept as a pet. Thats what happens to adult pet monkeys.
Monkeys make terrible pets and people make terrible monkey owners. You need to start by asking "what can I give that animals" not "what do I want".
Monkeys need to live in groups of their own kind, you'll only be with it for a small part of the day then it'll be alone for the rest of the time and all night.
They get bored, lonely and destructive.

You need an exotic animal license from DEFRA and you won't get one, because you can't show you know what you're taking on. Monkeys bite.

Please do yourself and the monkey a favour and give up the idea. Adopt one from a zoo instead, check out Twycross and visit.

Emma my dear you really don't want a pet monkey. I understand that the thought of it is lovely, but the reality is something else again. First off you need an entire room to keep them in, or a cage (don't we hate them) the same size. This will be neccessary because monkeys are inquisitive and destructive. They are'nt being 'naughty' they're just being monkey. If you had one loose in the house it would be chaos. Stuff getting knocked down and broken, being thrown all over the place, getting his fingers in your make-up etc, tearing up your books etc. etc. Do you get the picture ? Also he would have to wear a nappy or inevitably he will have 'accidents' around the house, and we don't like dressing up animals do we ? You need a special exotic animals licence to own a monkey. To get a licence you have to prove that you are an expert in their care, housing, diet, health care and phsycological needs, and all housing and arrangements for the monkey have to be inspected and passed before you get a licence. Have you thought about getting a chinchilla ? They make a lovely freind. They need a big cage to go in when you have to go out or leave them for a while. Whatever pet you decide to get make sure that you've been to the library and know everything that there is to know about the animals needs, and then when you get your pet buy a book that you can keep referring to so you don't make any awful mistakes. All the best dear.

It is illegal without a special licence.

To get a licence you need to be 18 or over and have a special enclosure to suit the species. You will not be able to take it out with you.You need to have a vet who knows about monkey's.You yourself need to be an expert in all their needs which you clearly aren't.

Monkey's are not good pets. They have complex dietary needs and also they are social.Your company will not make up for the absence of a big group. This lead to depression and sometimes aggression and destructive behaviour.

People like you give animal lovers a bad name.

Do a lot of research into their care and buy a hamster.

Why not sponsor a monkey instead? We have monkeys you can sponsor at our conservation park, Barbary macaques, pigtail macaques, long tail macaques AND cotton topped tamarins plus lots more animals and all of them are desperate for someone to sponsor them email me if you want more info. And while we're on the subject visit
http://www.givemeaning.com/donate/p-project.aspx?gg=922
Have a look at what a monkey does to it's enclosure then see if you really want one in your house.

it is so cruel, the only way you can buy them is illegally. One of my neighbours boght one illegally and was given a huge fine when it was found out and thankfully the monkey was restored to its natural environment. Please dont even think about this.
