I am assuming you have probably read some of the more famous authors such as Stephen King, Anne Rice, Michael Crichton etc.. So I will recommend some better concealed novels.
Spring Moon by Bette Bao Lord - This is an epic novel along the lines of Gone With The Wind except it is set in ancient china and brings us from that era into the modern era through the legacy of one family. It is a very very good read! I could not put it down.
Imajicka by Clive Barker - Clive Barker is fairly well known for the horror movies made from his novels, however, Imajicka is NOT a horror novel. It is a fantasy novel which takes a look at feminine spirituality in a fictional outlet. I found it highly entertaining and inspirational. It is the novel that opened my eyes to spiritual beliefs outside of those I had been raised with.
The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley - An intriguing twist on the legendary tale of King Arthur and Camelot. Bradley's story being written from a female's perspective makes for very amusing and emotional reading. I loved it and the sequel very much!
Anything from the Xanth series by Piers Anthony. His writing style is filled with puns ( with titles such as "Dragon on a Pedestal" and "Isle of View" ) and lots of comic relief. An excellent series to read when you just want to relax with a book without all the tear jerking drama of many other novels. Summed up : loads of fun to read!

What type of novels do you like? Mystery? Romance? Sci-Fi? Horror? Some of my favorites are The Summer of Katya and Shibumi, both by Trevanian, The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald..I could go on and on because i love to read! I usually pick a novel based on my mood at the time.

For mysteries: Janet Evanovich with a humorous flare
Sue Grafton, Patricia Cornwell (all write a series of novels with the same character and all well written.
Adventure: Clive Cussler (nautical adventures where the guy always gets the girl - detailed in his writings and enjoyable characters).
