Laptops are not that durable sometimes. It depends on how well you treat them and look after them. On any ordinary laptop, the digital mouse become deffective and you have to buy an optical mouse. The desktop is much better because it has more memory and operates twice as fast than the laptop. But since you have two desktops, I think your third can be a laptop. That way you can have a network and take your laptop anywhere.

I have a desktop 12 feet away, but I seem to always use my laptop!
Way more convenient, and less wires. Can set it anywhere in the house or take it with me. I keep it with me if I'm out on the town in case I need to look up a phone number, or check my schedule.
I keep the desktop for heavy duty stuff, or when I need a large or multiple screens (mostly for work).
You have 2 desktops. Time for a laptop in your life!!!!

If you already have two desktop computers, then you should get a laptop. You can take your laptop anywhere and I don't just mean outside of your house- even inside your home it's more convenient to have a laptop. Sometimes I'll use it in my room, other times in the office. Plus, it's funner to be able to access your computer in the comfort of your couch.

since you already have two... wait why are you getting ANOTHER computer?
go with a laptop, most laptops are as good as desktops but just have a smaller hard drive. plus then you can sit anywhere in your house with it or take it on plane trip or vacation.

Decide your priorities, and only you can do that.
If your first priority is portability, get a laptop.
However, if you want to get more computer for the buck, then get a desktop.
