Hi there, I know how you are feeling as I spent most of my childhood and adult life trying to get my parents to stop smoking. I think that the best thing you can do is to get you mom to understand why you don't want her to smoke. You are probably afraid that she will get one of many diseases that smoking causes. Tell her that you want her around for a long time. When I have done this with my own parents, they actually did quit for a while. It takes persistence but if you tell her how you feel often, she will eventually understand. She may not quit because quitting is hard, but at least if you continue to tell her how you feel you will be supporting her and being heard. Good luck to you sweetie!

Sorry honey, but this is something your mom will have to decide on her own.
You can tell her how you feel about it and how much you wish she would quit. Support her, and find some info online about quitting smoking and how bad it is for her health.
She can quit, but only when she is ready.
Tell her you want her around to see you get married and have children, etc, tell her you love her and don't want her to get serious diseases like cancer that could kill her.
She's being selfish by smoking, it's not necessary. It's a habit that can be kicked easily enough.

All you can really do is tell her how you feel. That should be enough. If she loves you as much as you love her, she should seriously consider your thoughts and feelings about the whole situation.
Good luck dear! take care!

I had the same kind of problem with my grandpa. I used to practically live with my grandparents, and he suddenly started smoking when I was 7. By the time I was 10, I was tired of always going home with my mom and reeking of cigarette smoke.

So one day, I went into his room and took a cigarette out of the carton, picked up the lighter, and walked into the living room where he was. I boldly sat down on the couch, placed the cigarette in my mouth (one word: ICK), and started to get a flame on the lighter.

Needless to say, he flipped out, and I merely said, "I just want to be like you, Grandpa!"

It made him quit, real quick. That was 7 years ago, and he hasn't picked up a cigarette again.

My mother has, and always will, smoke 2 packs a day. I'm sure she won't live long enough to see her granddaughter graduate from high school. It's almost impossible to get someone to quit smoking unless they actually want to quit. You may be able to say things to get her to think about it. "Mom, I hate that we can't do physical activities together because you get winded so easily...Mom, I want to be more affectionate with you, but I can't because your clothes and breath smell like smoke......Mom, I really want you to live a long life and I know it's really really hard to quit, but if you decide to quit, I promise that I'll do everything I can to help you through it.

I smoked for over 20 years, and when I decided to become pregnant, I quit. As one who grew up with a smoky house, I was determined not to do that to my child. I quit 3.5 years ago, and I know I'm done forever. Good luck to you!

You have to let her quit on her own,but you can convience her by talking her into quitting. My mom is down to 14 cigarretts a day because she is quitting 2 ciggarretts every week.Help your mom get through it and tell her to keep busy so she won't have time for smoking.P.S- if she quitts don't ask the following words:how are you doing because it will drive her crazy.

Try writing her a letter. She can't interrupt a letter. In it, tell all of the reasons that you love her and want her to still be around for many years to come (your wedding day, grandchildren, you need her as a positive influence in your life, etc.) She knows the health risks, don't dwell on that. Above all, show your support and don't force the issue. If it persists, tell her that you refuse to be around her when she smokes (it'd be better for your health anyways!).

Hmm. Well my dad used to smoke alot too and I really got sick of the smell of his breath and the car(he wouldn't dare do it inside w/ my mom) What I'd do is I'd put little printouts of information of what smoking does to you everywhere, car keys, toothbrush. And once I just took all his cigarettes and his car keys. He wasn't going anywhere until he promised he'd give it a go. Also, for your mom, I'd reccomend buying the Nicoderm patches and putting them somewere in the bathroom or her purse.

My mom was smoking for 18 years when I decided to stop her.
I wasn't serious, but I've told her if she doesn't stop, I'm gonna start smoking too. She doesn't smoke for more than 7 years now.

Just tell her that when you grow up, you wanna smoke cigarettes just like her. Hopefully that would make her at least think about quitting.
