there are so many different family dynamics nowadays that its impossible to generalise that any one situation is bad. there will be good and bad examples of all. for david cameron to suggest that family breakdown is the central factor in social breakdown is naive. and a bit of a cop out. what about the fact that parents aren't allowed to parent through instinct anymore? everyones lost confidence in their own abilities to the point that they won't, or can't, even discipline their kids. its crazy.

Doesn't matter whether it's a couple or a single parent. As long as they love their child and give them the best.
You can have a married couple who are abusive. You can have a single parent who's loving. It all depends on the individuals concerned
The main reason for the chav culture is the lack of respect and discipline among out kids. Bring back national service, it will help them control their aggression and turn them into model citizens.

I agree that children are better balanced coming from a stable family life which normally includes both parents

But like in my case my husband had 3 affairs am I supposed to turn the other way and put up with it, the children would not be happy then because there mum and dad would be arguing all the time............

He needs to wake up smell the roses, people will not put up with the crap our grand parents put up with, so save face in front of people

Yeah totally, i think it would be extremely hard to bring a child up with one person (especially if they are young), a child needs both parents and stability, this way they get influences from both parents not just one, i think chav culture is rebellion, kids in the UK are treated like second class citizens and always prejudged and discriminated against, why should we respect others if we get no respect ourselves? To be honest Nick, there is no need for national service, most chavs end up joining Armed Forces anyway, because its 'cool' and they have no qualifications...

Children need a stable environment and good role models and the best way is obviously parents in a stable home environment. The trouble is that often single parents come from single parents now. So the fibre has broken down. And the children suffer how ever much they are loved.

Look at the stats in today's Sunday Times, it tells it's own story. The problem today is that in general, people are too selfish and see children as accessories. If they spent more time with them, they would realise they can be wonderful, as you watch them develop and if you have done it right, become great friends.

I grew up with my mom in a very poor ghetto. I excelled at school, joined the army and then went on to the best university in the country on a scholarship. It would have been great to have a father and the better standard of living the extra money would have brought, but I made choices growing up and they were to be disciplined (I was and am very fit), hardworking and respectful. I see none of these qualities with the British scum that surrounds me these days.

yes children need both parents to raise them so they can have the influences from both a male and female perspective. however a stable family is more important then the structure of the family, its better to have a single parent family then two parents who are always fighting/swearing etc.childeren need stability and love and guidance from "sane" adults.

No, I don't agree - children should be raised in a loving way whether that be single parents or same-sex couples. It is the lack of love and time together that causes problems.

that man and any who agree live in a rose tinted world.. so its better for a couple to stay together for the sake of the kids is it.?. so what happens if its a violent marriage? or one of the partners is a junkie or wino?
i would rather see children brought up by people who WANT them not dragged up by folk who get extra cash to keep there marriage together
