Well they try to make you believe that wearing glasses makes you somehow ugly or geeky. Then with their movie magic they transform this ugly ducking into this beautiful goddess.
Of course you alredy know that she is a knock out to begin with but you still like to see them preform their magic other wise you would not watch those type movies.
We also watch them because some part of us thinks that if we could get rid of our glasses we would be beautiful to.

Good question...I always wondered why they did that too but I guess it's because they think putting on glasses and other stuff is like a barrier to natural beauty.

the answer is quite simple: money. on TV programs, the execs want ratings. ratings bring in more money from advertisers. in the film industry, the execs want high box office receipts (more tickets = more money).
