My brother is graduating from grad school and there is a dinner where the attire is "Dressy evening"? What does that mean exactly for men and women?

Think of a Semi dance, it's usually a classy and sofisticated outfit.
For women, try a knee length dress - you dont want your dress to the floor because it is too dressed up. And you dont really want anything to flashy because it's not appropriate for dinner!
For men, try a suit, but it doesnt have to be too dressy. You can wear a suit without a tie, or just a shirt, dress pants, and tie...
mmm i hope i helped a bit. :S

If it says coctail, then the dress is fine. I think the dressy casual would imply some sort of business casual look but with frillier tops and maybe dressier capris paired with wedges. If it is just dressy casual (and not coctail) it also depends on the lenght of your dress. If you dress is floor lenght, I'd stay away, otherwise it could be fine if you don't load up too much jewerly, then that could be tacky.

I would wear a nice simple cocktail dress...not alot of embellishment...and some nice heels. If the dress is simple do a nice necklace or pair of earrings. To me, "dressy evening" means "conservative cocktail attire". Banana Republic has some cute dresses and VERy cute accessories. Good luck!

It means not to get too dressy. Look good, but be casual. The black dress is fine.

For men it usually means a dark suit and tie or bow tie. For women it means either a cocktail dress or, today, anything other than jeans! If you're not comfortable wearing a dress, you can wear black slacks and cute, sparkly tank top.

Think prom dress, evening dress, that kind of thing. For me, its probably black tie.

A simple question to the person you have to rsvp to should give you some clarification.
