This could be caused by a number of things. How old or how long has your tank been cycling? It sounds like new tank syndrome.

All too often too many new fish owners make the same common mistakes. Did you wash your tank out properly prior to installing? Did you wash your gravel thru a strainer (and I don't mean just rinse it off)? These are the two leading cause for cloudy water.

Your tank is not cycled properly. See web page.

I'd strongly recommend that you become familiar with the Nitrogen cycle, so you are aware of what will be happening in the upcoming weeks.
Hang in there; once you get your tank through the initial cycle the cloudy water problem will clear up
Do you or are you using a gravel siphon to clean the bottom when doing water changes? (Sorry forgot it is only 7 days old) Did you rinse out your filter and pads prior to installing them?

If you did not rinse the gravel well enough you can do one of two things, stir up the gravel in the tank really well. This will cause all the "dirt" particles to float in your tank. Keep the filter running and do a 20% water change. Each time you do a water change, stir up the bottom, be sure to rinse your filter out as well. The tank once the cycle has completed should clear on its own.

Good Luck

buy a water conditioner and follow the instructions on how to use it. personally i think that Aqua Safe works well...thats what i use and it totally makes a difference. also you might need another filter. i think the sponge filters are great for a second filter. it goes at the bottom of the tank under the rocks. good luck!

Assuming you are cycling the tank this is normal, and will go away. It you aren't cycling the tank and just set it up it's likely from the gravel, and decorations. (Generally you want to wash them 1st.) In which case you should just empty the tank and rinse it out.

Either change it or get some algae eaters. I have snails and a filter, they help keep it clean for atleast 3 weeks longer than just a filter.

Did you rinse the gravel before putting it in the tank?
