This sounds a bit like a phenomenon that I heard of a while back called the blue screen of death. You can look it up on Google, they will provide you with sites like wikipedia who will explain the many causes of this and ways to prevent and recover from it.

It can be for hundreds of reasons - and sadly the fact that the blue screen (of death) is not present for long means we can not see the error code involved.
Personally if your system works normally up to the point before it crashes the most likely reasons are:
Virus
Bad Drivers
I advise that when you next reboot - keep pressing F8 and launch your system in safe mode. Then use the Windows diagnostic tool to solve any issues present.

ooh.. the dreaded blue screen. this happens when it cannot recover from, or is in danger of being unable to recover from, a system error.
several causes include: a poorly-written device driver, bad memory, damaged registry or usage of incompatible versions of DLLs.
this used to happen to me when i was playing games. but when i rebooted, something would pop up, telling me the cause and what to download to amend the problem. it was something missing from Creative Sound Blaster.

The blue screen of death lol. not as bad as it seems first go to your device manager and make sure you have no conflicts. if not unplug your mouse keyboard printer etc etc and see if it does it. if not your bios probably needs to be re flashed not a big deal. Good luck

dissimilar the time, this could nicely be a hardware situation, not a application one. i've got frequently seen it with undesirable memory so in case you have different (nicely matched) memory, attempt that memory somewhat. in case you have 2 sticks put in, pull one and depart the different in. in case you nonetheless get the errors, attempt the different stick. it could additionally be a bad motherboard, yet it somewhat is obviously extra stable to check. Microsoft shows updating the BIOS, yet i don't be attentive to if that might actually assist you. It somewhat feels like a memory stick or cpu/motherboard situation to me.
