Don't uninstall till your restore antivirus activities & backup your registry! Start menu, control panel, add & remove programs...find the antivirus program you wan to remove. Click on it and it will give you an option to uninstall. Either all or partial. Make sure before you click it! You might loose what ever the software has preformed on you computer. You might want to go in the Antivirus Program and restore everything it has done before you uninstall it. I lost a couple registry entries like that one time!

You could un-install stuff by following these:

1. Goto Start
2. Click "Run".
3. Type "appwiz.cpl" and press enter
4. Then from the pop-up window choose your Anti-Virus and click on "Remove".

WARNING!: Disconnect your computer from the Internet or from other computers before doing this because it may give an opportunity for viruses to come in

Some AntiViruses like Norton do not un-install that easily. Even if it does, it may corrupt the registry. So I suggest to goto the Symantec site http://www.symantec.com/ and check for an un-installer

5. After it gets removed, re-start your computer.
6. Install a good AV later. There are some frr ones like AVG which are more effective than Nortons.

Usually you go to the start button, click
The menu you see will contain a Control Panel icon, click

Since my computer is a foreign language computer, I can only approximate the following!
But you see a lot, a lot, of icons. Search for the one that says approximately Deleting and Installing Programs, click and wait
After 10-20 sec, an alphabetic listing appears.
***Warning*** be extremely careful what you do here!
Select only the program name that you want to delete and select that operation. That should do it.
Sometimes, if an error message is generated you have to go to the program folder of that program and click an Uninstall program provided by the maker!

Good luck! and be careful!
