Uprights are far beter than cylinder hoovers, for a start the upright has more cleaning power, u will regret buying a cylinder one. My neighbour 2 doors up was looking for a new hoover, I told her to buy an upright but she thought she knew better and bought a cylinder one, she had it 18 months and it packed up, it didnt clean too well either. So again I told her to get an upright and to buy a dyson that I recommended to her before, but again she knew better and yet again she bought a cylinder one which packed up in less than 2 years. I bought my wife a dyson dco1 about 6 years ago and apart from a couple of minor repairs it performed very well. 2 years ago approx I noticed my local supermarket were selling the dco 7 for less than £100, undercutting other stores massivly as one store quoted nearly £200, so I bought one for my wife and put the dco 1 upstairs to save my wife moving it up and down every day.
When we opened up the dco7 box and started to use it, we couldnt beleive the amount of dust that the new one picked up in the first minute of using even after using the dco1.

So as u can see I recommend u buying the dyson upright from dco7 upwards, I promise u will not regret buying it, u have no dust bags to buy and the filters on the dco7 are washable and are lifetime filters. its up to u whatever hoover u want but ur asking for help choosing, u say u dont want an upright, but what i have recommended is 100% up to the job.

Please let me know if I have been of any help.

A Dyson without a doubt is the best you can buy. They are not all uprights and do some pull-along ones. I have an upright and it does all types of floors from laminates to carpets, it has an very very long extension hose so is brilliant for stairs and it the best you can buy. Totally reliable.
Failing that you can get very good imitations of a Dyson on the shopping channels 635., 644., and 655 on Sky TV., and fantastically low prices.
IT'S DOING MY HEAD IN THE WAY EVERYBODY CALLS THEM HOOVERS. THEY ARE CALLED VACUUM CLEANERS.

Runabout 15.0 per amps. Best light weight upright cleaner I have ever had. It has allergen filtration. All the attachments.Plus u can't get any powerful vacumm cleaner as this one. The price is great too.I have had mine for 7 years. Still works like a charm. It's made by Hoover.

I just bought the Hoover Tempo Widepath a month ago. It was rated high in Consumer Reports, one of the top. Very reasonable price, also. I like it!

I was going to recommend Dyson, but it seems others beat me to it. Absolutely fabulous machine, sucked all the hair off the cat and the poodle's been missing since the missus last did the lounge. And it's quiet too.

I just bought a VAX performance pets 2400 and it is a really good hoover, it has a special tool for hard floors so you can hoover everywhere with it. I bought it from ARGOS it is £149.00 but it is money well spent. Highly recommend this hoover.
