What are the products if an acid salt (eg KHSO4 or NaHSO4) is reacted with CaCO3? I always assumed H20 was a product, but the eqn doesn't balance, i know CO2 is a product but what else?

in tis case, we're looking at HSO4- ion. this ion will act as an acid by donating H+ (a proton donor is defined as an acid)

we know that carbonate reacts with acid to produce CO2 gas and water. so when HSO4- loses a proton, u get (SO4)2-

to get the equation, u should write down what ions and molecules u haf before and after the reaction:
Before Reaction: Na+, HSO4-, Ca2+, (CO3)2-
After reaction: CO2, H2O, Na+, (SO4)2-, Ca2+
from here u can see that Na+ and Ca2+ were spectator ions, meaning that they did not directly participate in the reaction. also, a compatible partner for them in the form of SO4 ion is present, so u can conclude that ur products will include Na2SO4 and CaSO4

equation: 2NaHSO4(aq) + CaCO3(s) ------> Na2SO4(aq) + CaSO4(s) + CO2(g) + H2O(l)

2KHSO4 + CaCO3 ----> CaSO4 + K2SO4 + CO2 + H2O !
