if you are using windows xp, memsticks should be plug and play ready, try disabling your internet first coz i will have to advice you to temporarily suspend your antivirus software. right after your antivirus is disabled try to insert your memory stick and if it works enable your antivirus again for protection. lastly if it does not work try safe mode instead

USB devices are getting too power hungry.

If you are plugging your mem stick into an external hub, try plugging it into an available port on your PC (all of the ports on an external hub share the USB power of one PC USB port).
