The ulnar nerve (one of the 3 major nerves of your arm) passes just under your skin at the elbow area. If you're sleeping prone, and the inner part of your elbows is pressed on your bed, then your ulnar nerves are temporarily affected and you're feeling this 'numbness'. Try to sleep on your back instead!

Blood flow is restricted and the body, "shuts down" the muscles in that area to keep the cells from dying off. Stop laying on your arms while you sleep to allow for the blood flow to occur unrestrained.

You might be lying on them while you sleep. If you know you're not, you should just talk to your doctor about it. He/she will know more than I do.
