I'm a Christian so what I say next isn't motivated by a desire to see the change you're talking about. I think, realistically, that it's more than probable that Europe will be mostly Muslim in less than 100 years. Not only is Islam growing faster than any other religion, but European and American cultures are sloughing off religious constraints. Most churches are in serious trouble with membership tanking and revenues in the basement. Many churches are having to close or join with another church to stay viable. The only exception is the Evangelical movement which attracts fundamentalist Christians. Many, many people scorn faith as mythic tom-foolery. So Islam, which has it's rational scientists and humanists but is nevertheless much more insistent on observance, is very likely to succeed Western culture. From the purely historical viewpoint, any time a culture becomes lazy, stagnant and unfocused, it's usually replaced. The thought of Muslim fanatics in power is very frightening but I think it may be the future unless we reach out to the common people of the Middle East and learn about them and teach them about our real lives. The politicians on both sides will create nightmares for us to live in, waking.

Real Muslims know how to accept the other and even seeks peaceful coexistence with the other because they have deeprooted faith in their religion that can never be threatened by the existence of the other who deserves to have the full rights of citizenship , unlike the american identity which lacks confidence in itself that it strives to uproot other cultures and brainwash the other , subduing the natural bliss of individuality and producing identical copies of the americanizied version. Muslims are not vulnerable to any recruitment by anyone who misuses and misunderstands his religion. Muslims were never after domination like many western Machiavellian countries eg the late british empire..etc. i believe that the spread of Islam is blissful because it is the only religion that promoted justice in all its different patterns :)
