Because to become famous you must be good at something, at some profession. Women were not allowed to have a profession. So, the only famous women we have are Queens, or writers and painters. Or somebody lovers.

Fame is not measurable and an act by one gender may make other genger more famous. For example Shivaji was the ruler of Maratha region in India. Once his deputies braught along a very beautiful muslim girl for him to marry, so that his children will be beautiful, during his war with mughals. In those days, it was a trend to marry the women and kill the men in the wars. Shivaji, returned her to the rival camp with a comment that, "If God wants his children to look beautiful, He will provide him a beautiful and willing wife, and not somebody caught in the war". Since, everybody knew the role of mother in his basic character, she got all the credit for his act, even from his rivals. Let me also make it clear that Shivaji's fame is undoubted even today.

So, never compare the genders, it does nothing but bias the mind. No gender could have survived without the other.

Because, for centuries, women were thought to be "inferior" to men, good for nothing but breeding and housekeeping. We weren't allowed to do anything of consequence for fear that our "feeble" brains wouldn't be able to comprehend whatever it was. Men felt themselves far too superior and that they were the only ones who could accomplish anything. Like to see one have a baby! Our role was strictly house-bound, i.e. chief cook and bottle washer. Personally, I think men were, and perhaps some still are, afraid of what we can do, given the opportunities, or heck, taking the opportunities for that matter!

Where do you think the term "The fairer sex comes" from? Or is it "The weaker sex"? Same diff. We weren't supposed to strain our "pretty little heads" over things that were considered to be in the realm of men, just sit back and let them take care of it all and fan our pretty little selves silly.

See what has come of letting men run things for so many centuries? Look at the shape/condition the world is in today! If there had been more women to have accomplished things in our past, perhaps our present wouldn't be so messed up!

From the beginning of time until the early 1900's, women were considered second class citizens. They had no voice. Early history indicates that women were not taken seriously and even in the case of a crime or court hearing, only a man's word or witness was considered valid.
