I think it's more that people like to have pets because pets can be a source of comfort, humor and relaxation.
If you're asking why some people like to have pets as friends, meaning they're people who go all out for their pets, dressing them up, feeding them from expensive dishes, taking them EVERYWHERE and all that, then I think it's some kind of ... preoccupation. Maybe an obsession. Or maybe just that they're lonely and they're putting all their attention to their pet(s). As long as they're not hurting anyone and being productive members of society, why shouldn't they have that ... eccentricity?

well if someone's like me, u can't argue with an animal and they won't argue back. i argue with ppl at my house and get so frustrated but also i don't like to hug ppl or anything so i love on my animals and talk to them when i feel sad or lonely. so i'd say for many reasons but they're like a friend sorta.

because your pet does not borrow your clothes and ruin them, they dont steal your boyfriends, they dont eat too much of your food, they dont use my makeup, and they sleep with you without expecting anything from you. also they give you unconditional love, something i have not seen in any human at all.
