I've always wondered this. Since asians are generally homogenous, why would they produce so much that seems modeled on caucasians (especially characters in anime) rather than asians??

Japanese anime has always been based on foreigners, or, on the japanese idea of foreigners. Big eyes, crazy hair, pale skin and longer legs.

The japanese are a culture obsessed with a things different. They tend to base their characters more on europeans.

Alot of the japanese idea of beauty comes from that as well. They find pale skin, wide eyes, and long legs to be attractive traits in women, and they see that more often in the foreign actresses/singers etc that are aways on tv..

Many Asians like most white features. The colored hair and eyes are fun. Anime characters look mixed to me though. They have big colored eyes and hair like general white people, but high eyebrows and short noses like a general Asian person.
