A few months after my wife passed away last year (I've been raising my children myself since then-My son is 7 and my daughter is 13 months ) I noticed that my daughter has more than the usual freuency of bowel movements per day and the coloring was also changing. I paid no attention for a week (I thought that this was maybe normal, I didn't have any in-laws to ask and no such experience). then I noticed very tiny patches of blood in the stool which were so light in color that at first I doubted that they were blood at all.The next day I immediately called our paediatrician. She told me to stop feeding her regular baby milk and give her No-Lactose versions instead and that my daughter had become allergic to Lactose. The blood patches disappeard but I don't know how long my baby has to be deprived of regular Milk. I have this terrible feeling in me that I am depriving my daughter of something which is an essential part of her growth and have heard that Lactose is essential for the Brain.

I'm a medic in Greenpeace. Don't listen to any of us. Ask her doctor.

...and God bless you and your kids. You're in for one magnificent adventure. When in doubt stay cool.

There are two great books out I suggest you read: "How Children Learn" and "How Children Fail" both loaded with common sense.

Do not read Dr. Spock, total bullshit ~~~ he nearly destroyed the kids of the sixties!!!

My daughter had the same problem and now at 26 months enjoys normal milk and it doesn't have any bad effects. If your Paed hasn't said then maybe just try her on normal milk every now and then, knowing what it does to her, and then hopefully one day when you do her body will be ready for it and that'll be that.

I'm sorry about your loss but it sounds like your doing the best job with your children and the kinda Dad anybody would want. Hope all goes well in the future.

Sorry about all you've been through...My son was lactose intolerant but he has grown out of it and drinks tons of milk now. It won't hurt her to not have lactose. My son didn't have any for his first year of life, plus some... He grew fine and is smart, too! And I'm not just saying that because I'm his Mother. Good luck. She may grow out of it or she may not. She will be fine if she doesn't, though. There are people out there who have milk allergies and can't have ANY milk products and they are just fine.

Your dr diagnosed this over the phone? I would see an allergist to make sure....but for future referance go with your gut feeling.Sometimes kids have a little bit of blood if they are straining when they have a bowel movement. In that case a little bit of applesauce will loosen stools.... They have soy milk adn they also have some medicine to stop the absorbtion of lactose....it should get better.....Sorry to hear of your loss! good luck

My son had to have the soy formula cause he was allergic to the regular milk, but he's now 7yrs old and can drink cow milk just fine. Talk to the dr and see what he says. May or may not be permanent.
