Our government should sumarially seize all profits in excess of 'norm'* made by petroleum corporations in the last 15 years and use those funds to accomplish three useful things (or more). 1. Use some funds for public works that would improve the welfare and standard of living of people in the USA.
2. Use some to develope alternative energy.
3. Use some to repay our national debt.
The problem with doing this is that the leadership of the USA is in the pocket of the petroleum industry, much of which is based outside the USA (thereby assuring that US dollars go to foriegn nations and strengthen them while diluting the dollars value), and our politicians will do nothing.
