The culture that they're lacking comes from a few places: the first being the lack of Art programs (art, music, choir, etc.) no longer in public schools. This generation embraces the Shock Factor--and why shouldn't they? You would too if you watched the shows on MTV that show whiny, unhappy children acting as if the world owes them something for nothing. Additionally, they're no longer taught about the past, but rather given samples of it in music. They are no longer expected to read the classics of literature, but rather will go online and download the Cliffs Notes version.
This generation could care less about their future but instead choose to center in on the moment. As long as they have celebrities like Paris Hilton (she never went to college) , Lindsay Lohan (she's been in rehab, but never college), Brittney Spears (and she's a mother--unfit at that) and this whole rotten brat pack to look up to then they'll forever be clueless. The scary part is, they're going to be taking care of us, older men and women.

So you're saying that all the billions of different youth *around the world* are all lacking culture? That all the youth in all the different countries have crap music and are trying to immitate 60s and 70s? And that all the younger generation watch "so you think you can dance" (which i've never heard of btw)? All i can say is rofl man... rofl haha

The better question is this:
How can you judge an entire generation? Lacking culture? How do you define culture anyways? Go out one night this week to the theatre, ballet, opera, a concert, a gallery or a museum and count the number of "younger generation people".
I think you might be surprised how many cultured young people there are out there.

I take offense to that, but I will answer with my opinion.
I'll agree that the pop cutlure of today is largely based on pop culture of other eras. But you can't overlook some of the new trends, such as those fantastic (ugh) emos, and such. I mean, we are so very creative that we managed to come up with a trend of which every subscriber is suicidally depressed! What an amazing achievement! And yes, the bulk of the music sucks, which is why many of us seek refuge in the music from eras past. But we aren't all losers. That's just presumptuous on your behalf.

Every generation has its own culture. Because its different from yours doesn't make it wrong. Your parents and grandparents probably thought your ways were pretty weird too.

They were raised by the TV and spend all their time playing video games. When do they have time for culture?

Because older generation (30 and up) did not pass down to them any...
It's not enough to have, one must teach and spread it as well.
