Yes, while your body is adjusting to the artificial hormone that the pill provides, it will take a few months to settle into a routine. The pill is taken only for 21 days (unless its the mini pill) and then you have a break for seven days and in those seven days you will have a bleed(breakthrough). this can go on for more days than necessary but you must start taking the next pack on the 8th day of your cycle.
Some doctors nowadays ask you to wait taking the pill until the first day of your next period to help ensure the regularity of it. I wouldn't worry but to take the next pack straight after the first one wothout a break and then take that for the 21 days and have a break and see what happens.
If you dont have a period by the next one I would take yourself to the gp and get it checked.
hope this helps

When you start the pill you are fooling your brain into thinking you are ovulating when you aren't; you still have a period but because there is no egg it is usually lighter and shorter than your normal periods would have been.
The pill works 1 - 2 weeks in lag: the pill you take today will protect you from pregnancy 2 weeks later - that is why if you miss a pill, or go on anti biotics, you have to use other protection for two weeks.
If you started your first pack on the first day of your normal period, then you should get a really light period about 4 or 5 days after you finish your first set of 21 pills. However, don't worry too much if you don't bleed - often in younger girls (sorry don't know how old you are) that are quite small and slim you won't bleed very much at all - your 'period' is a bit of discharge that is darker in colour.
So firstly, how "late" are you? Often your 'period' continues into you starting the next pack. If you don't bleed at all to put your mind at rest take a pregnancy test in a couple of weeks (they need two weeks to show a correct result) - you can get tested free at a family planning clinic or they cost around £10 at any chemist.
Also, remember that a lot of people use the pill only as backup for condoms - even if you want to dispense with condoms altogether perhaps you and your partner could use both for a couple of months until you are familiar with the way your body responds to the pill.
Good luck!

The pill does not stop periods like someone else answered (I wish!) unless you take the active pills all of the time. Your body is probably adjusting to the pill. HOWEVER, when you go on the pill (or miss pills) there is a period of time which you will be unprotected and need a second form of protection in order to prevent pregnancy. You are not automatically protected as soon as you take a pill. Read the insert inside of your pill pack for details as each brand of the pill varies.
Please, find a reputable website and read up on the pill. I can't believe how many people go on it without really knowing how it works...no offense, but you are in the best position to protect your health by educating yourself and asking your dr. questions!

To calm your anxiety by knowing, get an over the counter pregnancy test kit (or go to a clinic if you can't afford it...something like planned parenthood will give you a free test if you can't afford one yourself).
It could be either way. In addition, your anxiety can also keep you from getting your period longer (i.e. STRESS can cause loss of periods -- and the more you stress, the longer it might take to return if that's what it is).

Please be safe and do not have unprotected sex. You can become pregnant even if he pulls out, and you are still exposing yourself to STD's.
