its a 1971 chevy 350 that is coming out of a 1971 motor home. 010 block. Transmission is a 700R4 or i also have a 4L60E from a 95 S10 Blazer. The patient is a 1992 extended cab S10. Plain Jane with a 2.2 4 cyl. I am trying to come up with a complete plan of attack and really want no surprizes. I want to do a professional job here as I am a professional myself. Tech that is. ive heard about having to relocate that radiator and condenser. also what should be used for suspension? which trans would be better? I believe the 700R4 would be. Also do you have to do any modifications to the body? beat on firewall? move power brake booster? I want to keep A/C on the truck and change all front pulleys to one acc. belt. Serpentine. The S10 does have the OBD2 system on it. what problems may I run into as far as the wiring for the 350 and what to do with the extra wiring and connectors?. any advice that is helpful, informative or just down right correct is greatly appreciated. Wish me luck

I own a shop, and do quite a bid a drag racing. I have many friends that have built the S-10 like you are going to. Without going into great detail I would suggest you purchase a copy of this book on how to do it. "The Chevy S-10/S-15 Handbook" from www.sumitracing.com/, The part number is HPB-HP1353
and the cost is $16.95 per. copy. This 208 page book is probably the best on the market for anyone who wishes to jump into the job you are going to. As far as your wiring situation; check out a company named "Painless". They have any, and all electrical harness's you could ever wish for, and even will do custom applications. I own a transmission shop, and can tell you the 700R-4 is the way to go with the tranny. A company named "TCI" has a line of hard hitting transmissions called the "streetfighter" line that will get-er-done. I have a 700 in my truck, and it makes 430+ horses. I run it on the street/strip with a 3.73:1 Eaton posi unit. We built our own tranny for it, but it is a clone of what TCI is doing. I have a 2,800-3,000 stall converter that has lock up. The (low geared) 1st gear really gets it out of the hole, and when it shifts it will jar your bones, and it is gone!! This is a full size C-10, and it gets around 18 mpg city, and 22 mpg highway. What more could I ask for? I could go on and on but I will spare you. A lot of people don't think the 700 is a good tranny, but I have beat this one to no end, and it has stayed together so far for about 5 years now. The only wires I have that come from it is a hot wire off the brake pedal that runs the lock up converter. Used a 45 lb. pressure switch in the valve body, and you will have to get a TV cable set up from a company called "Locar" (not sure of the spelling). I can shift it manual or automatic, but manual is best because sometimes it shifts too hard just driving in normal drive position. Hope this gets you going in the right direction.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

Not to be a jerk, but if you are asking these questions on a yahoo answer forum you probably should not be undertaking this project. But if you feel ready, you need to use the 700r4 trans as the 4l60e is compelelty electronically conrtolled and you would need to buy a stand alone computer for that trans to work, not worth the money or effort for your application.

You are putting in a carbed 350, so pull out the facorty harness under the hood as you will not use any of the sensor wires. The only wires you will need will be oil sender, coolant temp, electric choke if using one, power wire for distributor, tach wire, and alternator wiring, and a/c if you want to keep it.

You can get a serpentine kit for it, big buck though.

They make frame swap motor mounts, a radiator, and custom headers.

You will have to dimple the firewall a bit to clear the back of the distributor and the brake booster wont be a problem.

Get all your answers and parts sorted out before hand to make sure u can handle the project. good luck

Ahh the good old 350 swap into an S-10. well you have to beef up the drive shaft and the rear end. Also if you are keeping the motor carbed then that is illegal because of emmisions. But your best bet is to go to a performance shop to remap the computer or get a new one. Also the firewall will have to be modified along with new engine mounts. Other mods you will have to consider are suspension due to the added weight. Your best bet to find all the info is to google S-10 350 swap. There are a lot of websites that sell the engine mounts and can provide you with all the hardware you need. I had a 94 s-10 and also considered this swap and did research too. Good luck

OBD shouldn't matter as you are putting in a carburated motor in and will have to change the exhaust anyways. Swapping the engine to one without a computer will take care of most of the electronic headaches, if you have the 350 harness and a diagram for both the 350 and the s10 as you will have to do some splicing for gauges and what not. I've never actually seen under the hood of a 2.2 chevy but I imagine a beast like that is quite compact and its accesories would be in the way of the incoming 350 or not even compatable at all. Either way good luck and I hope it turns out nicely, sounds like a hell of a sleeper.

Go here and get the S10 V8 conversion manual. They cover every issue you will run in to . Every issue you mentioned and more. Done several of these and it's the best $25 or so you'll ever spend. They've got most the parts you'll need also although you may be able to find a few cheaper if you look around. Did my first one in a weekend after the right planning. This book takes all the hard work out of it ---seriously, and I'm no novice.
