I hate fries!
I live in Michigan, i've never seen or heard anyone dipping theirs in gravy! Maybe it all depends what part your in.
When I lived in Coupeville, Washington in the 1970's, they dipped them in tartar sauce, very good that way, (when I used to eat them).

I love them in gravy. Ketchup, salt and vinegar, and chili is good too.

Shredded cheese, then microwave it and throw some salt on after. It's so freaking good, and I haven't had it in a long time because of my diet. :(
