i need help with a shutdown.bat script?

i run a windows os Xp home edition sp2
When ever i open up notepad and type in

Shutdown -s

then save it as a .bat file it just flicks open a command prompt window and does nothing. How can i resolve this problem??

dunno it should work - it is what I use :-)

does the command work if you type it straight into the run menu ?
