My father, Uncles and Cousins fought in WWII. They never spoke about any hatered towards the German people. They were fighting for God and Country. Most of them thought of it as an adventure. But soon realized that it was something more. But could not explain it. They said you had to live though it to understand the mind set of the people and the soldiers.
It was hard to explain to a 6 year old.

My Grandfather fought in WWII

He had been missing in action and presumed dead. They located him in a POW camp when the war ended. Never spoke about it that I am aware of. I would imagine they all felt the same way the soldiers fighting today do.
