I have been living in this apt for 3 months, yesterday when i turned the light on (its a dimmer switch lite,you turn it, although it doesnt dim) a large spark came out...i was very frightened.. i have been afraid to turn the light back on, could this cause an electrical fire? what should i do? is this normal? never happenned before!

Have your landlord replace it.

This is a very dangerous problem, DO NOT USE THE SWITCH. Contact your apartment manager now to get this fixed, there is a danger of fire. If there are others in the apt, use something to label or cover the switch without moving it. Odds are there is a broken wire or the switch is broken inside

most likely theres a loose wire and it sparks when making or breaking contact. You should tell the landlord or have it fixed yourself. This is very dangerous and could cause a fire.

Yes it could cause an electrical fire. You should inform your landlord of the problem and get it fixed immediately.

your switch has dirty metallic contact inside. The dirt might be due to many times/years of switching on and off. Advisible to have it replaced.

have the switch replaced by some one that knows this biz ! if the land lord gave you some one to contact get them or the land lord ,mngr .

Don't use the switch again. It is damaged and is shorting. Have it replaced immediately.

call a local electrican to replace it or call your land lord an have them take care of it
