I would say to keep them for 8 weeks at least. Someone mentioned keeping them for two weeks after weaning to make sure they are eating well, which is a good idea. One of my chins was a rescue who was taken from her mother too early. She'd already been turned in by one owner, and I got her when she was 8 weeks old. She had a lot of problems with trust early on and was prone to bite for no real reason. I've had mine a year and a half now, and she's finally warming up to new people more easily.

Good luck

Most are weaned at 8-10 weeks depending on the sex males must be pulled at 8 to prevent breeding. Keep them for 2 weeks after weaning to make sure they are eating and drinking well on their own. Most breeders also go by weight as the bigger they are when rehomed the better.

Waiting has nothing to do with the chinchilla warming up to the new owner. It's more about everything done in the early months to socialize them.

We wean our chinchillas at 7 weeks and then keep them here for one more week to be sure they are thriving without Mom. We only keep them past 7 weeks with mom if they have a low weight. After 7 weeks most mothers are ready to get rid of them and are already trying to wean them.

Weaning is typically done at 6-8 weeks of age, so sometime after that. I'd recommend the longer they can stay with mom to learn to socialize and etc, the better.

8 weeks is the norm. dont wait too long or it will be harder for the chin to warm up to the new owners and they wont be happy.
