before telling about the self confidence i would like to tell about the communication ..
there are two types of communication 1) one way communication2)two way communication
the communication is completed when the sender gets the reply .
so when the people communicate for the two way communication they should feel confident that the receiver can understand our language.that confidence comes only when we have the self confidence that means we have to know first what we are saying.i you dont know what you are saying you would have the selfconfidence. The selfconfidence comes when you understand yourself..
so if the communication is done with out self confidence it is treated as one way communication that means it is not a complete communication.when the receiver understands you message that will be treated as two way communication .
hence self confidence is the most essential way of communication..

a needy, insecure person makes others feel threatened, even if it's a normal occurance like an infant who is crying--and we know we are not responsible-we immediately look to the mother to calm it. An adult who lacks self confidence is someone we see as a failure, who might impose on us. we feel best in our comfort zone, the zone we are most productive in. Men loved Marilyn Monore, a beauty they could enjoy even though she portrayed herself as a helpless little girl in some of her mannerisms. In reality she was a self sufficient working actress, who did not live off men. A person who is self confident makes others really feel good, you can just relax and enjoy them and thus the lines of communication are always open.

I'd say self-confidence welcomes opportunities for healthy and interactive communication among people. If one is comfortable & confident about himself, it will eventually show up in his/her actions... (body language); thus, resulting to a more pleasant, more welcoming personality that would draw other people's attention to them.
high confidence level = more attention = more chances to communicate to others.
While a high level of self-confidence could make it easier for people to express themselves, it really is not VITAL for one to be self-confident in order to communicate effectively. Sometimes all it takes is the motivation, together with courage&willingness to reach out to engage into meaningful and stimulating conversations.

I agree with doctor vo.... only I want to add that self confidence makes you express your ideas more clearly, stand for your thesis and sometimes makes it easier to sit and listen to the other's opinion with more ease.
I mean self confidence can make you a better speaker as well as a better listener.

self confidence is not really a form of communication but it allows people to feel more comfortable in a diverse range of situations where they have to interact with others

Self-confidence is an attitude, not a style of communication.
You can be afraid and still talk or type, right?
