Allow me to start by explaining what spirits and jinns are.

I think everyone knows what spirits are, but here is the explanation of what jinns are. Jinns or Djinns are an islamic belief. I am not a Muslim, but my good friend is. We often gather round to tell 'ghost stories' and Djinns are a feature as well. Though his beliefs I concede after reading what Wikipedia says might be different, mainly due to the fact that his country mingled some of their beliefs in it as well.

Allah create humans from the earth, angels from light. It was believed that he created Djinn from fire. I forgot what demons came from. They are spirit entitities and cant be seen by humans, though you might seee them sometimes by accident. My freidn claims that, once during a visit to his native country, his uncle covered all the mirrors and in the dark of the night he called to one. And a flicker or a flash of fire could be seen

Anyways Djin have free will. They are like humans, not all of them are evil. However Djinns can be controlled by humans, this is where things get nasty. The men who control them are akin to witch doctors, they usually dont make them do 'good' things. Also when you lose control of the djin. Expect his vengeance to be brutal.

Sorry, just wanted to share some ghost stories. Anyways, I dont think all spirits and all djinns are evil. Just respect the dead, dont disturb them and they wont disturb you. Meaning to say dont summon them, treat them as playthings, dont poke your noses in haunted houses and you should be fine.
